Plot Synopsis of Memento (Background research)

-(Black and white scenes are told in chronological order while colour scenes are told in reverse)
-Leonard Shelby gets an unknown caller calling who says that a Sammy Jenkins claims to suffer from short-term memory loss as he wakes up wondering why he is in a motel room
- Leonard was seeing if Jenkin's condition can be and should be covered by his insurance. But his claim was denied. Sammy's wife died due to an overdose of insulin injections by Sammy. He couldn't remember her death
- Leonard remembers how his wife died ( 2 men raped and murdered her in her house). Leonard shot one but the other pushed Leonard into a mirror, causing him to have amnesia. His last memory was of his wife dying on the floor. Lenny wants revenge and looks for the second person so that he can kill him
- Lenny makes notes of important facts on his body, taking polaroid photos and other notes. Avenging his wife's death, he focuses on whenever he wakes up the next day. He has "remember Sammy Jenkins" on his hand to remind himself of his condition and clues to 2nd man's identity "drug dealer", "male", "white", name is "John/James G............"
- Later we know the unknown caller is Teddy, (Joe Pantoliano) who tells Lenny that the 2nd person deals in drugs and is at an abandoned warehouse. Lenny goes there and kills Jimmy G (Larry Holden)
- Teddy comes to the building and says that Lenny's wife died from an insulin injection by Leonard. (Leonard was tricked and killed an innocent man)
- Teddy says that Sammy Jenkins wasn't even married and that he is a police officer called John Gammel. He says he helped Lenny to kill the real John G over a year ago. Teddy thought that to bring back Lenny's memory, killing the 2nd man would do it, but he forgot the killing and searched for John G again. Then Teddy says that he manipulated Lenny to kill Jimmy for the $200,000 in the car of the drug dealer. He had set Jimmy up to bring the money by claiming to have drugs (false)
- Lenny then sets himself up to kill Teddy. He notes Teddy's license plate number as John G's one and reminds himself to get a tattoo of the number : SG13 7IU. Lenny drives to get tattoo. He throws out the keys then finds a note from Jimmy's girlfriend
- He forgets that he is wearing Jimmy's clothes and thinks the note is for him and gets to the bar where Jimmy's girlfriend works. He tells her about his condition. She offers to help him but tricks him into killing "Dodd" who has been trying to get money from Jimmy's drug deals. Lenny forces Dodd to leave town.
- Jim's girlfriend traces John G's license plate and gives Lenny a copy of John Edward Gammets driving license, which photo matches Teddy. He concludes that Teddy is John G and is the one who raped and killed his wife. The other John/Jones Gs that Lenny has killed is forgotten. He takes Teddy to the warehouse where Jimmy G was killed and shots him in the head.
