Analysis of Memento 1

Why it is clear from the opening sequence of Memento that it is a thriller.
CINEMATOGRAPHY
- Close up of picture fading away
- Close up of camera
- Close up of man's face with blood. It goes to shot of blood then shell, then glasses of man
- Mid shot looking up at person with gun then firing (close up).
Close ups - what is hidden
- Close ups of faces of different people
EDITING
- The opening is played in reverse order (playing backwards)
- Given scene in little pieces
- Flashbacks
- Keeps going back to the black and white scenes that are in chronological order
MISE-EN-SCENE
- There is a picture of a dead man fading away with hand (pic on right)
- It is very dull and dark
- Dull bedroom, almost black and white
- Tattoos on body so he doesn't forget important things that happened lately
- Always dark when he is remembering bad things and at the start of every day
SOUND
- Eerie music to start off (picture taken)
- Sound of picture waving about
- Gunshot heard just before man shouting
- Dialogue
